Single Stage Management of Giant Ameloblastoma
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ameloblastomas are tumors of odontogenic epithelium. Although benign, they are quite aggressive, invasive, and at times reach gigantic proportions. Patients with giant ameloblastomas are very rare, but are still encountered in developing countries due to painless growth and patient’s fear of surgery leading to delayed treatment. Management of giant ameloblastomas poses a challenge in terms of acceptable functional and esthetic outcome. It has been advocated that large ameloblastomas are best managed in single stage procedures which involves resection and reconstruction, thus reducing patient stay, cost factor and related morbidity. This paper presents a case of large ameloblastoma of the mandible of 25-year-old male which was successfully managed in a modifi ed single stage procedure, thus restoring patient function and esthetics.

Reconstructive and Oncoplastic Surgery for Giant Phyllodes Tumors: A Single Centre\'s Experience
Phyllodes tumors are biphasic fibroepithelial neoplasms of the breast. While the surgical management of these relatively uncommon tumors has been addressed in the literature, few reports have commented on the surgical approach to tumors greater than ten centimetres in diameter – the giant phyllodes tumor. We report a case of giant breast tumors and discuss the techniques utilized for pre-...
متن کاملBasal Cell Ameloblastoma of Mandible: A Rare Case Report with Review
Ameloblastoma is a slow-growing benign neoplasm that has a strong tendency to local invasion and that can grow to be quite large without metastasizing. Rare examples of distant metastasis of an ameloblastoma in lungs or regional lymph nodes do exist. It has an aggressive and recurrent course and is rarely metastatic. Radiographically it shares common features with other lesions such as the gian...
متن کاملGiant neglected desmoplastic ameloblastoma: reconstruction with free fibula flap.
The desmoplastic ameloblastoma (DA) is a rare variant of the conventional ameloblastoma. It accounts for only 4% to 13% of all ameloblastomas. In this article, we describe the case of a young child affected by a giant neglected DA of the jaw. Preoperative biopsy demonstrated the extremely rare osteoplastic variant of DA. The patient was submitted to segmental mandibulectomy and immediate recons...
متن کاملGiant multiloculated ameloblastoma of the mandible: a case report and review of literature
Odontogenic tumors comprise a diverse group of lesions with varied clinical behaviour and histological patterns. Although ameloblastoma is the most common odontogenic tumor, it is a relatively rare tumor occurring in the jaws, representing only around one percent of oral tumours. It is a benign but locally invasive tumor and is more common in the mandible. These tumors usually present as slow g...
متن کاملRare Giant Granular Cell Ameloblastoma: A Case Report and an Immunohistochemical Study
Aims. The aim is to present a case of rare giant granular cell ameloblastoma and to review the pertinent literature highlighting the molecular aspects of its pathogenesis by analyzing the expression of CD-68, Bcl-2, and β -catenin. Methods. H and E stained sections showed large odontogenic islands showing peripheral ameloblast-like cells and central stellate reticulum-like cells with extensive ...
